Shrek is love

Shrek is life

shrek is pretty cool! shrek is THE best icebreaker! i started bringing up shrek in every conversation I had with new people, and every time, i ended up getting to know them better because of this! so many people have played Donkey in their Shrek: The Musical performance!

i actually didn't grow up with Shrek myself! i remember seeing parts of Shrek in a tiny minitheatre inside a childrens museum, but that does not count. what actually led me to Shrek was a Harry Potter themed leadership training youth summer camp. us campers found a replica of shrek's Stay Out sign in the woods, and upon questioning the staff about it, discovered that last week's summer camp had been Shrek themed. naturally, this led to a youth revolt, and we became a shrek camp.

the algae-encrusted pond became Shrek's Swamp. lore arose from thin air, saying that Shrek was imprisoned in the bottom of the Swamp, and we must work together to Free Him using our worship. a worship service was organized for outpost night, the night when we were to camp in a field with minimal adult supervision. Thanos was there, speaking on behalf of his cousin. there were dissenters in the crowd, so the service got pretty lively! at the end, we joined hands in a circle and very gently sang together, while swaying:

somebody once told me the world was gonna roll me...

i ain't the sharpest tool in the shed...

then, suddenly, a voice shouted from across the field:

it's shrek!! he's been freed from the swamp!!!

and the crowd took off running to Shrek while giggling and laughing.

naturally, we all came back to camp smiling and whispering "what happened at outpost stays at outpost!" and then probably none of us actually kept quiet about it because it was awesome.

after that, i realized i had never actually seen the movie, so i fixed that real quick. when Puss in Boots: The Last Wish came out in theatres, the Shrek fandom reignited! after all these years, could we actually get a Shrek 5?
